The Sports Reporter app expanded the available sports and article types from the Football Reporter app. The user interface was revamped to modern standards. An in-app purchase was added to allow users to upload their own photos for articles. Another new feature is the Leaderboard of the Top 5 viewed articles for each sport. The motivation behind the Leaderboard is encouraging users to spread the word about the articles they create.
The Leaderboard has a social aspect as well. Leaderboard winners receive a shoutout on the Sports Reporter App Instagram page each week. The instagram format for breaking sports news was added through backend image manipulation to display the selected team, player photo, and breaking news article type. Development included searching news article API results to find relevant articles to display for articles by sport.
The WeReport app generates custom news articles using any photo the user chooses to upload. The user can share a link to the custom article with friends and family. The uploaded image is used for the SMS preview image paired with a headline that is also custom user input. This mobile/web news platform is crowd sourced with user-generated content putting the power with the people enabling real news reporting.
The Football Reporter app and associated website news articles were developed for GHW Enterprises LLC. The mobile app implements a clean interface giving the user the ability to quickly create a breaking news article for any active football player. Development included database and API integration to access football players, photos, teams, schedules, etc.
The website articles were setup to dynamically update based on user inputs. Careful presentation of the SMS preview is key to conveying legitimacy when sharing the user generated article. The Football Reporter app spent several weeks as the #1 paid news app on the Apple App Store in November and December 2019. The Barstool Sports podcast Pardon My Take featured a news article generated by the app on October 16, 2019 (1:35:28).
